I can’t decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It’s a little worrisome to me because social media can be very misleading. But that being said, I can’t stand the constant emails from politicians asking for donations.. to use for what!?
The great thing about social media is its ability to equalize the playing field. Candidates without deep pockets or political party backing can make their mark and get their message out to an audience that would otherwise be outside their reach.
I agree with your thoughts on this. Wouldn’t it be cool to have some candidates come out of nowhere? Leaders that aren’t twisted or manipulated by the money machine.
Zohran Mamdani is a great example of using social media to expand his outreach. He’s been able to grab the attention of younger voters by being active on TikTok and partnering with NYC influencers. It’s nice to see politicians take a more down to earth approach - makes me feel like they are human and have the capabilities to listen to, learn from, and represent their constituents fairly.
